Pediatric surgery is a sub speciality of general surgery pertaining to patients ranging from new-borns to 16 years of age. It comes with its own challenges that differentiate it from other surgeries. It deals with a number of problems which are different from the adult population and also their management requires different solution than the adult population.

10 year old boy had complaints of severe pain in scrotum for 2 days. He also had a lot swelling and redness in the scrotum. He was taken up for emergency surgery and was found to have torsion of the testis (ie the testes twists over its blood supply) and the testis had become dead and so was removed. These symptoms in this particular age group should be brought in early to save the testis.
